I Bide My Time With You

"

'I Bide My Time with You' is about the timeless bond between two souls. The promise to always be together, even when faced with the ultimate separation of death. With this emotional piece for piano and strings I have tried to capture the essence of this unwavering devotion and eternal love.

I lost my father while I was working on my first EP 'Rubble'. He went through a long period of suffering an pain, and a sense of helplessness and frustration inevitably seeped into my writing. The result was rather dark and sometimes dissonant music.

It took me a while to realize that even during these difficult times there was also light and harmony to be found. Such as my mother's unconditional and devoted care for her husband. In her actions lay a comforting and uplifting message that true love transcends all boundaries.

So when I started writing for my new EP ‘The Time We Are Given’, I really wanted to rediscover a connection with beauty and harmony again.

I wrote 'I Bide My Time With You' for my mother, and for anyone who has lost the love of their life.

About the composition

The music is carried from beginning to end by a single repetitive note of the piano that represents the ticking of the clock. A simple motif expresses the feeling of resignation and acceptance of mortality. Then a conversation starts between cello and viola. Two lovers look back with melancholy on a loving and harmonious life together. In the second half the repetitive note of the piano changes into an ostinato figure, the melody becomes more hopeful and the string orchestration thickens to express the hope that even after death their love will live on.
