It's Time For Reason

One year after the release of my first EP ‘Rubble’, dedicated to all children who have become victims of war, the dream of our children growing up in a peaceful world is still far away.  Today, more children than ever are confronted with the atrocities of war.  The violence continues to escalate, and more nations are getting involved in armed conflicts around the world.  In an increasingly populist, nationalist and extremist geopolitical climate many world leaders seem to have lost all capacity for reason.

I wrote 'It's Time for Reason' as a response to narcissistic, autocratic leaders who disrupt the fragile geopolitical balances with propaganda and lies. Who fuel violent conflict within and between nations, peoples and religions, for reasons that rational, conflict-avoiding and compromise-seeking minds (like myself) cannot possibly understand.

With the hymn-like melody of 'It's Time for Reason', in an arrangement for piano and strings, I am calling all world leaders to abandon war rhetoric, silence the weapons and return to reason.

About the composition

‘It’s Time For Reason’ starts with the double bass playing a variation of the main theme, accompanied by a rhythmic ostinato in the piano left hand that continues throughout the piece.  Then the piano introduces the main melody in the right hand.  I chose a harmonic minor scale to give the hymn-like melody a very soulful, Eastern European sound. After a short intermezzo playing octave piano stabs on the fourth beat, the theme is repeated twice, adding spiccato strings to build up to a climax that ends abruptly.  An authentic cadence peacefully lays down the piece.
